Didn't I already do this one? Like, twice? Wait; this list has both "preteen years" and "childhood" songs - am I supposed to consider those as two separate, distinct categories? Does "preteen" mean 10-13 and "childhood" mean before that? If that's the case, then I messed up the "preteen" thing, because from where I am now, that's an awfully narrow slice to try to sort out. I mean, there are plenty of online lists that could help me put songs into the before-and-after 10th birthday groupings, or whatever it intended, but I'm really not going there.

But okay; I do actually have a playlist of "early childhood" songs, so I can grab a few from there. Even though several of them are TV show theme songs.

...omg, there's a whole generation who doesn't understand how nerve-wracking it was to watch them never get off that damn island.

Tom Dooley | I Wish I Was a Teddy Bear | Ballad of Gilligan's Island | Seasons in the Sun | Welcome Back | Queen of the Silver Dollar | The Aba Daba Honeymoon | Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow

Manah Manah was not my favorite back then. )

The local community theater guild is hosting a yard sale. I pay the guild $10, I get a space to sell my stuff.

Suddenly my "departing the living space for keeps" pile has grown by a dozen books and about three dozen DVD/Blu-ray cases.

Funny how that works. XD

(Whatever I don't sell will just go to the library book sale or the Goodwill as appropriate.)

Oh good. Back to song topics that don't make me want to rip my hair out.

Had to stop and think about this one, because "love the voice" is not high on my priority lists for songs I enjoy most. But for a long time, I listed my favorite type of music as "anything with a baritone voice and acoustic guitar."

What You Need | Dance Magic | I'm on Fire | Love Is Chemical | Holly Holy | Wherefore and Why | Stay Young | The Warrior | Rainy Days & Mondays | Delta Dawn | It's So Easy

And one where the vocals are so pretty, I almost forget that I love the lyrics, too )

I have not done any big uncluttering, but a lot of little things. We have been knocking over a batch of paper bags storied near our utility room door for months. It finally got to both of us. About 35 small white handled bags went into recycling, and 6 big Barnes and Noble bags went to B2P to use at our fall book sale. Both these kinds of bags keep coming into the house, and they look so possibly helpful they get kept. At least for a while we will not knock bags to the floor when carrying baskets to the washer.

I also finally got to cleaning up my email account on the Snow Leopard laptop. My email comes to 2 different laptops and my iPad. I don't sync these because I do not want to sync other things, so email deleted in one place stays in another. Someday I hope to figure a way around this. Anyway, since I am going to clone the Snow Leopard laptop in preparation to getting a new iMac with Sierra, I though I should try to clean up my account on that laptop before the cloning. I have deleted over 1000 emails, mostly from places I shop on line who keep sending me ads every day. I also had a lot of political emails from various organizations, especially pre and post the election. I deleted them on my iPad, but they are now gone from the SL computer. This also means that when I do the data migration all that will not transfer to the new iMac. Managing computer data is a huge chore, and I am not done yet. I still have to look at the documents I kept on this laptop, and see what I do not want any more.

Paying attention to all this is important. When I stop watching what I save, or forget that I have other email records, or save webarchives that I never look at again is when stuff accumulates and gets in the way. I need to keep reminding myself of that.

I'm behind again. This time it's not because I forgot or got too busy. Who MAKES these damn lists, anyway? Don't answer that. I know who. Teenagers, or maybe college students. People who think, "reliving heartbreak is a poignant moment, an interlude of quiet sadness in the midst of your hectic day," and not "reliving heartbreak is like walking naked into fire, so of course I'd want to share that with all my friends and casual acquaintances who knows how many strangers on the internet."

So I've spent a couple days trying to nudge the question from the side, trying to consider songs that I think of as heartbreaky without sending myself into a downward spiral that could take weeks to recover from.

Today doesn't get a list, and it doesn't get a video. [personal profile] mdlbear posted that Jordin Kare has died.

I remember one filksong from my first year at BayCon - Leslie Fish's "Banned from Argo," sung in the back corner of a party room by four people sharing a copy of Westerfilk. The next year, I went looking. I remember one song from my second year - Jordin Kare singing "The Bride of Saint-Germain."

I wrote about this before. Bride of Saint-Germain has, as far as I know, never been recorded. It's certainly never been publicly released. And now, no matter how well the OTW does in its struggles to get fanworks accepted as fair use, no matter what kind of precedents vidders win from congress... he's never going to record even one of the fannish concert versions that sometimes make their way to Youtube.

I loved Jordin's music; I have both Fire in the Sky and Parody Violation and I can sing along with all of them, even if I don't quite know all the words. The song that breaks my heart is the one I'll never hear again.

The reveals are now up over at [livejournal.com profile] sshg_promptfest . Please head over and spread a little love to all the authors and artist - I fully intend to over the next few days (I have so much to catch up on!).

Here is mine, which also happens to be my first foray into Discworld. Let's hope I did it some small justice. *grins*

Title: Almost Like Magic
Prompter: [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith
Beta(s): The lovely, LJ-less RNR
Rating: PG-13
Warning(s): None.
Prompt: Snape has been appointed a lecturer at Unseen University; he and Hermione attend their first faculty soiree.

Summary:
Hogwarts' newest Professor is in a bit of a pickle. Hot on the heels of one of the country's most dangerous magical creatures, she's only gone and found herself transported to another world mid-chase. A world that is flat and disc-shaped, where magic doesn't work quite as it's supposed to, and where the local Librarian has a distinct taste for bananas. It's unfortunate, too, that this new world is also home to the last person she wants to see.

Oh, and there's still the matter of that creature to deal with.

Bugger.

DD ruminations

As many of you know, I've been participating in [insanejournal.com profile] daily_deviant since 2007. And, with the exception of the year of cancer, I haven't missed many months.
So I thought I'd compile some wacky statistics and see how that all has shaken out so far.

For me, the big draw of DD is to be able to write pairings and kinks I normally wouldn't. Things like The Fat Lady/Molly Weasley, or Wormtail wanking while in rat form (LMAO). And yes, I even managed copraphagy (scat) once.

Anyway, I figured I'd do some calculations and see just how much I rely on my OTP for DD.
And since I consider Harry/Draco my secondary OTP, I figured I'd throw them into the calculation, too. ;)

Out of 113 total posts, I have written 23 Snarry fics, 9 Harry/Draco, and 4 Drapery. Which means about 20% of the time I write my OTP, H/D is 7%, and Drapery is 3%. That puts me at around 30% overall.
And, considering I often write my OTP for DD when desperate (I call it committing emergency Snarry *g*), that's not too bad, IMO.
FYI, I left out fics with background Snarry (where they are just mentioned as couple, but not the focus of the story).

Writing 70% 'other stuff' counts as being adventurous as far as I'm concerned. *g*

Right, how about you guys?
Especially those of you in DD, let's see your stats. I'm curious!
