You're kidding, right?

I like Gwen's ambivalence about Jack's return. "You come back and it all goes wrong. What took you so long?" Not sure quite what to say about it other than that, but it hit a nerve.
No surprise Jack didn't answer where he'd gone or what he'd been up to. I wonder where/when on his personal timeline he is? Because dude, he looks substantially older, and I mean older than JB looks on shows he's filmed after TW:MD wrapped so it's obviously a makeup issue and thus probably deliberate.

I wonder what's going to happen to Anwen. Obviously Rhys is going to get his arse across the Atlantic somehow, but is he going to bring his daughter along or not? I can see arguments either way, as she's not going to be safe anywhere right now, but why bring her straight into the heart of the conflict.
Brilliant performance indeed. *shudders*
Oh yes, this is definitely the Tosh/Owen scenario all over again. Right down to the arrogant prick walking around undead, come to think of it. Please tell me we're not going to just rehash it. I feel like we got more of Esther's personality in the last episode, though she got more lines and screen time for this one. Weird.
Interesting political analysis. Let's look at everyone else but ourselves in terms of what we can expect for irrational behavior, as we ourselves will, of course, be totally rational. Fairly typical, but the way it's being played is walking a thin line between commenting on racial bias and committing it.
So, for the "you're kidding" bit. Really? This is how we identify arsenic? By its consistency???? Also, if we're going to go all medical-procedural midstream, could we maybe have someone in props ask a friend with a diabetic family member wtf an insulin syringe looks like? Because dude, that 3-inch massive-bore needle was so very much not. Or are we meant to think that Mr. It Was Only Once is shooting ... whatever the hell you'd need something that size for. Steroids maybe? Because that length doesn't seem very practical for iv use either. Too easy to go right through the vein, though admittedly, my iv knowledge is still extremely basic and likely to remain so for the foreseeable future.
And the Big Bad is a drug company. That has apparently just created (or at least was expecting and is positioned to exploit) a situation in which massive amounts of drugs desperately need to be produced and has hired a PR rep who looks and acts like she should be starring in Bedazzled (the 2000 version). Presumably some alien tech or at least info is at play, but ... doesn't feel very Torchwoody. We keep hearing aliens mentioned, but there's so far no hint we'll actually see any. Again, as two years ago, I find myself wondering why, if RTD apparently wants to write an entirely different show, he doesn't just do so instead of trying to squish Torchwood into a mold it was never meant to fit. I love the TW characters. I like the plot thus far and am at least engaging with the new characters. They just don't really feel like they mesh, at least not yet.
Canon error. Apply fanfic.
Got to admit, I did like Rex's bullshit speech. Though broken-necked Sierra, or whatever her name is in this (hmmm ... that would make an *interesting* crossover point ...), was truly creepifying.
All in all, I still prefer classic (as in S1 & S2) Torchwood, but I'm in for the ride. We'll see how they manage to break my heart this time.
