firefly124: fanfic writing is my therapy (writing therapy by savine_snape)
Stolen from [personal profile] bethbethbeth. The deal is to pull up the stories that you have on AO3 (would work for any archive with hit counts enabled though) to see which are the top 10 in terms of hits. Then, I gather, later you compare to see what shifts. This sounds cool to me, as my overall impression is that there are more people reading (or at least leaving kudos and comments on) the smaller fandoms, like Vorkosigan and Temeraire, but that may not turn out to reflect who's reading, just who's more inclined to give feedback. So, here goes, though I'm going to go from 10-1:

10: The Morning After (HP, SS/HG/LM, Explicit, "Hermione rolled over to her left and found something in her way. Rolling over to her right, she found another obstruction. This woke her up enough to wonder what could be crowding her." 314 hits)

9: How Hermione Got Her Groove Back (HP, SS/HG, Explicit, "Hermione finds herself alone in the Headmistress’ office one afternoon with Snape’s portrait, and things get … interesting." 316 hits)

8: Burnt Offerings (Vorkosigan, Miles & Cordelia, Gen, "On the anniversary of his father’s death, Miles ponders the way they mark it." 317 hits)

7: Wherever I May Roam (DW, Jack/Doctor, Teen, "It was supposed to be a simple stop to pick up supplies at the famed market of Avicephalon." 331 hits)

6: Moulding to the Pitcher (Temeraire, Gong Su, Gen, "The chance to serve a Celestial had seemed a blessing to Gong Su, one normally reserved for those who served the imperial family. And it was, but frequently not in the ways he had imagined." 406 hits)

5. Keeping the Goal in Sight (Vorkosigan, Ekaterin/Miles, Gen, "There must be a reason she needs to learn Comparative Botanical Genetics, right?" 413 hits)

4. Never Chose This Way (Vorkosigan/BtVS, Ivan/Byerly, Teen, "Ivan and Byerly are on their way home from Beta Colony when something goes very wrong. Gigantically wrong, you might say." 442 hits)

3. The Doors We Open and Close Each Day (HP, SS/RL, Teen, "Young Severus Snape was packed off to Hogwarts with instructions to ingratiate himself to the pureblooded Slytherins who would surely be his House-mates. By the time it’s his turn to sit under the Sorting Hat, he has other ideas." 458 hits)

2. A Perfectly Normal Day (HP/Temeraire, CW/HG, Gen, "Just when Charlie thought he'd seen everything, along came Iskierka." 460 hits)

1. An Ordinary Man (Vorkosigan, Ivan/Byerly, Explicit, "Byerly gets Ivan drunk, and one thing leads to another." 557 hits)

==================================================================

Some musings. An Ordinary Man is the first completed fanfic I posted online. So my first thought was, "It has the most hits because it's the oldest, so it had more time to collect them." However, it was not the first uploaded to AO3. That honor goes to #2, A Perfetly Normal Day. It'd be interesting to compare in a few months or a year to see how things shift (or don't).

Stats as of right now:

Fandoms: Vorkosigan 4, HP 3, Temeraire 2, Crossover 2, DW 1, BtVS 1
Ratings: Gen 4, Explicit 3, Teen 3
Ship type: Slash 4, Het 3, None 2, Multi 1 (Misleading, because some have implied or background ships but are basically genfic. Could also read as Slash 4, None 4, Het 1, Multi 1.)

I'm not sure any of those stats reflect the overall percentages of my fic. Even though I think of myself as a slasher, since that's where I started out, I've written far more het, mostly SS/HG, though of late there's been more and more gen or quasi-gen. It is interesting that VK fandom does have the most hits represented, as that was the impression I had going in, even though I've written comparatively little of it.

Meanwhile, I need to try and do a little writing this afternoon before it's time to run off to dinner and a blues concert.

Title: Exit Strategy
Author: [personal profile] firefly124
Artist: [personal profile] slowsunrise
Series Included: TW through S2, DW through S5 plus a major spoiler from S6
Characters/Pairings: TW team, John Hart, River Song, canon pairings
Rating: T
Warnings/contains: References to canon torture and the experience of being buried alive.
Word Count: 12587
Summary: While she was back in the second century, River Song noticed more felt wrong than the disappearance of stars, and once the universe had rebooted, she went back to find out what it was. She wasn't expecting to dig up what looked like an incompetent Time Agent with a fried vortex manipulator and a TARDIS key in his pocket, never mind one who needed a quick ride back to 2008.
A/N: Written for [livejournal.com profile] tw_classic_bb, this is the sequel, or possibly prequel, to my [livejournal.com profile] who_reversebang story, The Sound of Running Water, but stands alone. Art, as mentioned, is courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] slowsunrise, whose master post is here. Please go give her some love for her gorgeous work. Huge thanks to [personal profile] canaan for beta-reading and [livejournal.com profile] saracen77 for Brit-picking. Any remaining errors are mine. Also, I don't own Torchwood or Doctor Who, otherwise, this would be canon instead of AU.

Nothing like being all last-minute! I think I've just about found the ending for my [community profile] tw_classic_bb fic. The good news is, I've managed this before my posting day, which is next Tues. The bad news is, I've not managed this before the beta I had lined up had other RL stuff come up.

Anybody up for beta-reading about 12k of Exit-Wounds-fix-it with added DW-crossoveriness? Pretty please with cinnamon sugar on top? (I'm working on coming up with better bribes.)

Title: The Wilde Job
Prompt: #13 - The objective of the Leverage team's latest caper turns out to be an alien artifact that Torchwood is after, so both groups join forces.
Summary: A Torchwood cold case becomes the Leverage team's new case. A con within a con ensues.
Word Count: ~2700
Pairings/Characters: Full Torchwood and Leverage teams with canon pairings/tensions, past Jack/historical figure, and a hint of past Jack/Sophie
Crossover With: Leverage
Rating/Warnings: PG13/None
Contains: Graphic abuse of series timelines and the odd bit of swearing.
A/N: Thanks to [insanejournal.com profile] angela_snape and [personal profile] jooles34 for beta-reading on incredibly short notice. This went a bit afield of the original prompt, but I hope it serves and, in its timey-wimey way, still fits.

There's a ton of other great stories over there, crossovers with Sherlock, Primeval, Criminal Minds, The Adventures of Jules Verne, and probably others I've forgotten. Go, read, enjoy! Just, for anything rated higher than PG13, you'll have to join the comm, as those stories are locked.
firefly124: kaylee frye (kaylee comic by ubiquirk)
Now that my fic for [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_fest is off to the betas, I am finally reading what has already been posted, and I'm absolutely ecstatic over the fic written to fill the prompt I wrote.

ETA: Damn, I'd forgotten that anything rated above PG13 was flocked to community members only. Sorry! Will re-link when it's posted elsewhere after the fest.

Title: Moments; Singular
Author: [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices
Summary: It starts with the moment that Torchwood Twelve hires the crew of Serenity for a job.
Word Count: 3,400 words
Pairings/Characters: Jack/Kaylee, Rex, crew of Firefly
Crossover With: Firefly, After Miracle Day for Torchwood and after Serenity (the film) for Firefly
Rating/Warnings: R for sexing, swearing, and, um, non-fatal character death
Why you should go read it: There are so many character insights, for all the characters, written into this that it's hard to know what to say without giving it all away. I will say that I don't think I knew precisely why Jack/Kaylee was one of the possible pairings I suggested, but [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices sussed it right out, played the two of them off each other beautifully, and brought tears to my eyes more than once in the process. There are also funny moments, balancing it all out wonderfully.

And now, if you'll excuse me, I need to not only go read the rest of the fest, but also everything [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices ever wrote.

Much to my startlement, Almost a New Friend (second story in the Marked Men series) tied as runner-up in "Best Book Crossover Pairing."

Huge thanks to whomever nominated it, to the judges who placed it, and to the mods who keep these awards running! And congratulations to all the winners!

Wow, cool!

Almost a New Friend, second story in the Marked Men Giles/Snape series, has been nominated at the SunnyD Awards in the categories of Best Crossver (Book) and Best Crossover (Book) Pairing. I got a shiny button and everything!

Huge thanks to whomever nominated it, and thanks to the mods for running these awards that are on their 24th round!

Title: When You Go Down To The Woods Today (You're Sure Of A Big Surprise)
Author: [personal profile] remuslives23
Pairings/Characters: Jack Harkness/Remus Lupin
Rating: NC17
Summary: This is the story of how Jack learned the truth about werewolf mythology.
Why you should read it: It's hot as hell, makes complete sense as a crossover point, and did I mention the hotness? Of course, I'm slightly biased, as [personal profile] remuslives23 wrote it for me as part of the [livejournal.com profile] qldfloodauction fundraiser. Go. Read. Enjoy.

Shiny!

firefly124: snape - bewitching your mind (snape bewitch by briarrose_icons)
I received a couple of fic-related pretties.

Song is the Snupin DH fix-it I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] skitty_kat's lovely and inspiring drawing Bribing the Ferryman during the Trading Places Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] lupin_snape. I'm tickled to learn it's a featured story this month.

Thank you, mods at TPP!

But wait, there's more!

I'm also on this week's quiz at [livejournal.com profile] quiz_sshg. This week's theme is crossovers, and the story there is Who Are You?, a Doctor Who crossover written for [livejournal.com profile] aleysiasnape during Zibitcon Envy at [livejournal.com profile] hpcon_envy to the prompt "Severus and Hermione meeting the 10th Doctor and making an entirely understandable—and incorrect—assumption about his identity."

Thank you, mods at [livejournal.com profile] quiz_sshg! Now, the rest of you, go play, and see if you can figure out which passage (if any) come from "Who Are You?" and the other featured stories!

There's actually a third fic-related thing this week, but no graphic to go with: as of Monday, I've completed a full year of consistently meeting the [livejournal.com profile] 5_for_five writing challenge of writing at least 500 words at least five times a week.

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] lady_rhian for coming up with the idea and [livejournal.com profile] sshg316 for creating the [livejournal.com profile] 5_for_five comm as a motivator to Just Keep Writing!

That'd also make this post today's grats for the Gratitude Project, though I've got quite a lot of catching up to do with that. Oops.
firefly124: Jack holding Ianto icon by iconillusion (janto6 by iconillusion)
I'm a little surprised I didn't rec this the first time I read it, but now there's extra stuff to go with.

Title: The Extraterrestrial
Author: [personal profile] nancybrown
Fandoms: Torchwood and E.T. - The Extraterrestrial
Rating: R
Characters/Pairings: Jack/Ianto, Gwen/Rhys, Johnson, Lois, Alice, Steven, Rhiannon, OCs
Summary: Torchwood sees yet another alien menace, but to a lonely little boy, it's his new best friend. Written for the [community profile] reel_torchwood challenge.
Why you should read it: E.T./Torchwood is just an excellent concept, and [personal profile] nancybrown added some cool character insights and bits of backstory to both canons that fit very nicely. Plus just when you think you've worked it all out, she throws a curveball at you, just to keep you on your toes.

Yesterday, she added this lovely coda, which is what prompted me to reread the original fic.

Title: The Boy Who Lived
Author: [personal profile] nancybrown
Fandoms: Torchwood, E.T. The Extraterrestrial
Rating: G
Summary/Prompt: Any day after the story finishes, Jack, Ianto, Alice and Steven having a meal together or some other type of family bonding that's also a bit of a debrief/post-mortem of the alien visit.
Why you should read it: Steven's POV on Uncle Jack bringing Mr. Jones for dinner is adorable, especially his interpretation of some of Ianto's reactions and mannerisms.

Chronologically, this next one happened between the other two, but it's a different crossover and much earlier in the TW team's timeline. Link starts with the comment to The Extraterrestrial that started the whole thing.

Not really a title: Comment Crackfic
Authors: [personal profile] nancybrown, [personal profile] temporal_witch, [profile] wynkat1313, and [personal profile] queenfanfiction
Fandoms: Torchwood, Muppets, Sesame Street
Rating: R
Warning: Childhood icons plus Jack. Need I say more?
Excerpt:
"No, they look like puppets. Henson worked for our US branch ... " Gwen broke in, "We have a US branch?" "We did," Ianto said darkly.
Why you should read it: It's hysterically funny. Plus, well, the warning is really more of an advertisement, isn't it?

Title: How Harry Learned to Keep His Hands To Himself (Most of the Time)
Author: [personal profile] remuslives23
Fandoms: Harry Potter, Torchwood
Pairings/Rating: Harry/Draco, Jack/Ianto, PG
Summary: When is a Crup not a Crup? When it's a teleporting, time traveling, energy guzzling alien, that's when.
Why you should check it out: What's fun about crossovers is seeing how one set of characters copes with being thrust into the home territory of another set of characters, and what that brings out in both sets. This fic does that well, making for a very amusing Monday morning read.
firefly124: jack_doctors_rose_icon by locker_monster (jack_doctors_rose_icon by locker_monster)
Title: Oh, Boy! I'm a Time Lord!
Author: [personal profile] humantales
Rating: PG
Fandom: Doctor Who, Quantum Leap, Torchwood
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness, Sam Beckett, Al Calavicchi
Spoilers: Doctor Who through The Parting of the Ways. Quantum Leap through Mirror Image. Torchwood through Children of Earth Day Five.
Word Count: 14,292
Summary: Two different forms of incompatible energy existing in the same space-time would create havoc, wouldn't it? What would they have to put right?

I've had this open in a tab for about a month, I guess. Kept meaning to read it, even mentioned it to Patsfan, who is a huge Quantum Leap fan. When I did, he asked, "But the Doctor's always putting things right anyway. What does he need Sam leaping in for?" By the time the answer to that question became clear in the story, I was dope-slapping myself. Obviously the Doctor needed a kick in the pants to fix this and, well, getting kicked out of his own body would be one way to do it. It's awesome. Go read. Even if you don't know Quantum Leap, I think enough is explained to the DW characters to make it clear.

To Know Who I Am got nommed in Round 18 of the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards for Best Book Xover and Best OC. *squees*

*looks @ shiny*

Huge thanks to whomever nommed it!

*squees some more*

Not only that, and I totally thought I'd posted this before, but it's a Featured Story on Chaos for June! Thanks to the Sycophant Hex mods!!

firefly124: fanfic writing is my therapy (writing therapy by savine_snape)
The awards have gone out for the 17th round of the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards, and I was thrilled to find out that Marked Men won for Best Book Crossover Pairing. Squee!

Thanks to whomever nominated it and thanks to the mods for running these awards! And congrats to the rest of the winners, especially those who happen to also be on my flist!

It's actually a little intimidating how much people seem to still like that one, given that I'm planning to write the third installment in that series for this year's [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_giles.
firefly124: fanfic writing is my therapy (writing therapy by savine_snape)
Damn, but I wrote a lot this month! With finals and Leaky and everything! Somehow, I ended up participating in the Lusty Month of May at the Pervy Werewolf Community on both IJ and DW. I haven't quite sorted out how many words that came to, but as I averaged 300ish words most days, with some more and some less, I'm estimating that thing turned into 9-10K. It also ended up getting kinda dark and twisted at points, so I posted it as part of the Darkfic Fest on [community profile] lupin_snape as well. It's going to be all kinds of fun trying to clean that mess up to be archivable. Never mind SPaG, which definitely went to hell in a handbasket with the "churn out something every day" bit, I'm pretty sure there are some internal inconsistencies.

I don't think I've ever written a Snape who was quite this much of a bastard before, and I'm not sure how I feel about having done so now. :-/

Anyway, on to the wrap-up. )

Next up, hopefully the next chapter of Turbulence. I'd hoped the LMOM thing might get me rolling on that, and I did get some written, but once things turned dark, I knew this wasn't the same Snupin as in Turbulence, and I couldn't write them both at the same time.
firefly124: charlie bradbury grooving in a glass elevator (Default)
So, I was thinking as I posted my LMOM entry tonight, that I'd made Snape do an Anya. Which then led to wondering who'd written Snape *doing* Anya. I only found one Snape/Anya fic at Twisting The Hellmouth, but it was hysterical. As anybody/Anya pretty much will be. Now I want to see Anya/Luna, romantic or not, just to see whether the universe implodes if they're in the same place together. Anyway, on to the rec.

Title: A Remedy for What Is Ailing Me
Author: echo
Fandoms: Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Rating: FR15, (kind of a soft R, I guess)
Pairing: Snape/Anya
Summary: No matter what universe she finds herself in, Anya still manages to shock, disturb, and generally pervert.
Why you should read it: Because ... it's Anya. With Snape. Anya. Oh, and it's post-Chosen. No, seriously. Don't be eating or drinking anything when you read though.

A/N: Happy belated birthday, [personal profile] leni_jess! Thanks for the cool prompt. It threatened to turn into something much longer, which may yet get written some other time.
