firefly124: Jack, Rose, & the 9th Doctor (OT3 with 9 by dameruth)
I didn't write anything, haven't even managed to write my [livejournal.com profile] hpcon_envy prompts yet, but I've very much enjoyed reading the fills.

Wrap-up post with links to each fic here.

Will post a real post sometime soon. Meanwhile, enjoy the fic!

The [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking stockings have gone live, and I received lots of lovely stocking-stuffers. There are cheery holiday wish macros, an SS/HG icon by [livejournal.com profile] kerravonsen, and four lovely fics:

A Glimpse of the Future by [livejournal.com profile] wendymr (DW, 9/Rose/Jack, rated T)

Steel by [livejournal.com profile] philomytha (Vorkosigan, Simon Illyan and Alys Vorpatril, rated G)

Patient, Kind, and Varied by [livejournal.com profile] sahiya (DW, Eleven/River/Rose/Jack and various combinations thereof, rated M)

Untitled TW/SJA crossover by [livejournal.com profile] fififolle (TW/SJA, Owen and Clyde, rated G)

I've already said it there, but thanks to all the lovely gifters, and also thanks to [livejournal.com profile] medie and all the volunteers that make the fun that is [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking happen! Last night was hell on wheels at work, so coming home to all these awesome gifts was just so perfect. Please go check out the cool icon and/or the great fics and leave them some love too.

I also had fun writing a few stocking-stuffers, though not as many as I'd set out to do. There's at least one that may yet happen if I can dig myself out of the clueless-Yank hole I dug myself into. *crosses fingers*

Try, Try Again for [livejournal.com profile] ariestess (Leverage, Sophie/Parker, rated G)

Switch for [livejournal.com profile] wendymr (DW, 9/Rose/Jack, rated G)

Foreign Influence for [livejournal.com profile] philomytha (Vorkosigan, Gregor/Laisa, rated G)

Ulterior Motive for [livejournal.com profile] yamx (DW, pre-9/Rose/Jack, rated G)

Living Well for [livejournal.com profile] joking (DW, Jenny/Vastra, G)

A Night to Forget for [livejournal.com profile] sahiya (DW, Eleventy and Jack and Rose, rated G)

Yes, I never got out of G territory, even with Jack. Go figure. LOL
firefly124: river song with gun (river bamf by michaela0823)
Title: Damsel in Distress
Author: [livejournal.com profile] clare009
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: Nine/Rose Nine/River Eleven/River
Spoilers: Up through "Let's Kill Hitler"
Summary: River has finally found the Doctor again.

This was a really fun read. And now I must race out the door to do a mandatory training on my day off.

Finished Cryoburn the other night. Even knowing a particular character development was destined to be coming up, even seeing all the foreshadowing for exactly what it was, that was quite the gut-punch. No wonder I put off reading it. Cut for a spoiler that really isn't a spoiler, since Bujold had said all along that the next book would contain this particular element. )

Also, an epilogue composed of self-contained, exactly 100 word drabbles? With a definition for the unfamiliar of what a drabble is? Stroke of genius. Admittedly, if someone did that in fandom, as we're so accustomed to drabbles and drabble-series, it might not have gone over quite as well. But it was such a surprise and the format worked so well for what she was doing that I just loved it.

In other news, orientation at work proceeds apace. I definitely prefer working the floor to supervising, despite the fact I'm basically just pushing pills. I apparently have two more weeks of orientation scheduled, plus the iv certification class that hasn't been scheduled yet. But I'm definitely feeling more confident about it all.

The 3rd annual [community profile] wintercompanion Summer/Holiday fest has started with a lovely bit of Jack/Nine hurt/comfort. I'm looking forward to seeing them all. Very cool approach they took with the prompts, too, using the "psychic password" format we encountered in "The Doctor's Wife" of a color, a number, an emotion, and an aroma. Very effective and evocative, and the prompts are open for people to write/draw/create other things throughout the month, which should lead to seeing some intriguing variety on how people run with them.

I think I'm about over my "What the hell was I thinking?" attack re: my [community profile] femslash11 assignment and have moved into research mode, which is a very good thing.

And now, time to run around and do stuff to get ready for this weekend's Anadikia retreat. Coming up with appropriate offerings has been rather challenging. (I got it into my head that I needed special liquor offerings for each of the Temple patrons. Ginger liqueur for Zeus and Oracle of the Sun Shiraz for Apollon were easy enough to find. I'd wanted retsina for Pan, but nobody around here even knows what it is, much less carries it, including the place Tim found it a year or so ago. So I went with Bully Hill wine that has a goat for a logo. *facepalm*)

Have a great weekend all! Don't break the intarwebz while I'm gone!

AO3 stuff

If anyone else who participated in the Whipped Cream Day mini-ficathon uses An Archive of Our Own, there is now a collection for those fics, which you can either post to or, if your fic is already up on AO3, I think you can edit to associate with the collection if you want.

Also, since [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking had an AO3 collection, I've uploaded the various things I wrote there.

Whew! That's more than I realized. And at some point, I need to upload the rest, just to have everything in one place. At some point.

Now to tend to various fandom responsibilities I've let slide. Meep!
firefly124: fanfic writing is my therapy (writing therapy by savine_snape)
Forgot to do this yesterday. There's certainly nowhere near as much in years past, partly due to nursing school and partly due to the 271K+ insanity that is The Fic That Wouldn't Stay Dead. But other stuff did get written!

Of course, compiling that reminded me that I missed the deadline to write something Snupiny for December for the Year of Snupin challenge. *sigh* I reminded myself more than once over the past week to do it, too. Damn.

Still trying to write a few more [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking stuffers, as the reveal isn't until the 6th, I think, so rather than keep track of what was 2010 and what was 2011, I'll just count it all as 2011.

Mostly fluff, occasional angst. It's nice to actually be able to do a weekly wrap-up post.

firefly124: jack_doctors_rose_icon by locker_monster (jack_doctors_rose_icon by locker_monster)
Title: Oh, Boy! I'm a Time Lord!
Author: [personal profile] humantales
Rating: PG
Fandom: Doctor Who, Quantum Leap, Torchwood
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness, Sam Beckett, Al Calavicchi
Spoilers: Doctor Who through The Parting of the Ways. Quantum Leap through Mirror Image. Torchwood through Children of Earth Day Five.
Word Count: 14,292
Summary: Two different forms of incompatible energy existing in the same space-time would create havoc, wouldn't it? What would they have to put right?

I've had this open in a tab for about a month, I guess. Kept meaning to read it, even mentioned it to Patsfan, who is a huge Quantum Leap fan. When I did, he asked, "But the Doctor's always putting things right anyway. What does he need Sam leaping in for?" By the time the answer to that question became clear in the story, I was dope-slapping myself. Obviously the Doctor needed a kick in the pants to fix this and, well, getting kicked out of his own body would be one way to do it. It's awesome. Go read. Even if you don't know Quantum Leap, I think enough is explained to the DW characters to make it clear.

I've alpha and beta read a bit outside my usual realm this summer, which has been both a challenge and a blast.

Title: The Memory Remains
Author: [profile] deemichelle
Fandom: Twilight (AU)
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Edward/Bella
Prompt/Summary: Edward is a soldier heading overseas in WWI. He meets Bella just days before he ships out, they promise to wait for each other. What happens when he comes back home a changed man to find her changed as well?
Why you should read it: It captures the flavor of the altered time setting in a number of ways that I found very enjoyable. And I imagine that for Twilight fen, it's probably all the cooler seeing how the changes in this AU affect things and how some things manage to stay the same.

Title: Touched by Dragons
Author: [profile] angela_snape
Fandom: Harry Potter
Rating: R
Pairing: Charlie/Draco
Summary: A bad reaction to a burn treatment leads to a different sort of reaction to a burn specialist.
Why you should read it: A lovely bit of angsty not-quite-h/c with a very unusual pairing that does some intriguing things with Draco's character, in particular.

Title: Drugged
Author: [personal profile] sahiya
Fandom: Doctor Who
Rating: PG
Pairing: Nine/Rose/Jack
Summary: Goddamn xenophobic aliens and goddamn drugs and goddamn hypodermic needles.
Why you should read it: A thoroughly enjoyable h/c fic that slots nicely into canon and pokes about at some interesting aspects of Jack's character.
firefly124: 9th doctor - fantastic (fantastic9 by dawn_e_h)
Title: She Burns Like the Sun, and I Can't Look Away
Author: [personal profile] wonderfulwrites
Fandom: Doctor Who
Pairing Doctor(Nine)/Rose/Jack
Rating: Mature, but not graphic
Word count: 2079
Prompt: 9/Rose(/Jack?), something between "Boom Town" and "Bad Wolf," on the trip to/from dropping off the Slitheen egg.
Summary: The Doctor envies them for their ability to escape chains of past and future, to just be in the now, at that moment.

So, last summer, [personal profile] wonderfulwrites was looking for prompts, and I gave her this one, which, unsurprisingly if you know her work, she took someplace much more dark and interesting than the prompt implies.

Go. Read. Enjoy.
