Fun with accents
May. 11th, 2009 07:31 amI've mentioned before that I'm a bit of an accent-chameleon, which has gotten me into trouble more than once. Last year, I half-joked that by the end of Portus I'd have some weird hybrid accent going on. If that did happen, nobody told me about it, so maybe being around that many different accents had a similar effect to sticking a Boggart in a room full of people.
Now, since about five minutes after we moved to Connecticut, people have told me they find it hard to believe I'm from MA, much less that I ever lived in Boston. Apparently when I crossed the border, I was issued a set of "r"s? Like I said. Chameleon. Last night at dinner, though, I discovered that it seems to work the other way around too, though I rarely notice it. My sister and I were talking about hair stuff, and I said something about feeling like a Martian when I tried getting foils that last time. Except even I heard that what I said was "Maaah-shun."
Holy crap! If I get that bad after a couple of hours without even going remotely as far north as Boston, I can only imagine what I'll sound like a day or so into LeakyCon, never mind by the end. Wicked pissah, man! LOL
Counting the days. Ten of them! Two exams today. Final next Monday. Then Leaky. W00t! Oh, and I finally put in to have Monday night off. Decided it was stupid to take an exam from 8:30-10:30 and then go in to work at 7, when I could just go straight into vacation mode.
