So, I've known this exists for awhile, but I hadn't really looked into it until a client asked about it last night, as she is interested in ordering from them.

There's this project called Angel Food Ministries that offers various bulk food-buying options each month. They have a "signature" box with several meats and veggies as well as milk and eggs, and several specialy boxes including pre-made diabetic meals and an allergen-free assortment (no peanuts, tree nuts, soybeans, milk, gluten, eggs, fish, or crustaceans).

There's no income cut-off. In fact, participating churches encourage their congregants to order through the program, as their model depends on buying power to get better discounts. It is (obviously) a church-run program, and they do say they include leaflets in the boxes. I haven't bought from them yet, so I can't attest to how big a deal this is, but it sounds easy enough to toss/recycle if you're not interested. (If you know me, you know there are a number of ways that could go very badly imo, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt until I've tried the service.) They also have what looks to be a fairly good range of locations, at least in the Eastern US. (There's a menu to look up what's closest to you on the site.)

I'm planning to order in the next buying cycle, which is monthly (just missed May), and I'll let you know how it goes. It sounds like it could be helpful not just from a financial standpoint but from an "I have no time to plan meals and shopping properly" standpoint. I can see how buying the signature box and maybe the fruit/veg one could solve that nicely, by basically deciding for me what I'm going to be cooking for the next month, which, frankly, I pretty much need during school. Even ordering online to pick up at the grocery store requires more decision-making than I've been up for lately. We've been living on pizza and Subway for Pete's sake! Which is both expensive and not really healthy. So, as I say, I plan to give it a try, and I'll let you know how it goes.

For that matter, if you've tried them and want to share your experiences, good or bad, I'd love to hear about it!
