Today I'm oddly grateful for the shift to asynchronous communication. While I'm not as allergic to chatting on the phone as I used to be, text is a much more comfortable medium, whether sent via email, Twitter, or, you know, texting. (Not so much snail mail. Too much pressure to "do it right" or be eloquent or something. Some of that in email, though not to the same extent. No expectations of eloquence in 140-160 chars though.) I do much better actually staying in touch with people using these methods, in part because of not having to deal with my own speaking issues and in part because of not having to wonder/worry about who's awake/working/whatever when.
