Things are looking up
Jun. 18th, 2010 02:27 pmThe leak is fixed, at least for now. The segment of replaced pipe (identifiable by its shiny glow next to the ancient pipe it's attached to) is maybe 3 inches. *boggles* Also, I didn't end up needing to go rent/buy either a shop vac or a sump pump, at least not today. (Dude, I don't even know how I'd set up a sump pump in this basement. There's just nowhere I'd even be able to think of to set it to drain, and I got to be good at basement de-flooding in my parents' house.)
Oh, and it was the old plumber who came to fix it. Apparently, "I've lost my leg and can't do that sort of work anymore, try this other plumber" really means, "Fuck you for calling me at 1am, go bother someone else." Seriously, I'd have vastly preferred the latter. Or maybe my hearing's just that bad.
dacian_goddess pointed out the similarities between this apt situation and Cordy's, minus Phantom Dennis. A Phantom Dennis would really brighten up the place actually. Have mentioned to Patsfan my fear that the whole place is just going to fall apart one of these days. As expected, he doesn't think trying to find someplace else to live is a good idea until I'm done school. I may, instead, finally invest in a storage unit and just clear out the basement. Because it seems we got really, really lucky this time. That can't last.
Thanks to all who left words of commiseration and encouragement. {{huge hugs}} to all who want them.
