So, I didn't bother with the rest of the series, as I'd already seen the aired eps, but Netflixed the 4th disk that has the unaired pilot and the deeply mysterious 13th ep.

With regard to the unaired pilot, it's interesting that some of it *did* make it into the first aired ep in some form, as quite a bit seemed familiar.

What got didn't get aired, on the other hand ... well ... Some was probably just as well. Keeping Ballard on tenterhooks a bit longer was arguably better than the way the pilot played out. On the other hand, there were elements of it that made it far easier to care about Caroline as a person independent of the various personae she assumed throughout the show.

The 13th ep? Part of me wants to know why they even made it available on the DVD once the show was picked back up for a second season. Because it's set 10 years in the future, and if that's the future, what is there to hang on to for S2? Because clearly the entire world is going to go to shit. And okay, as per the commentary, there are several ways to get there, but if we already know that's where we're heading ... what's to care about in the meantime? I mean, what with the world already going to hell and knowing Caroline will be the one supposedly pulling humanity's collective ass out of the fire.

As an epilogue of sorts, though, I did like it. Felicia Day was excellent, as was the creepy little girl. And that is the logical outcome of such technology: some moron gets the idea to create instant armies via phone uplinks, and voila! Apocalypse! So, yeah, it was well done. But unless they plan on picking up *after* that point (how?) in S2, they should've kept it under wraps, imnsho.
