firefly124: inara & kaylee hug from serenity movie (serenity-hugs by talesofsnape)

Thanks for all the lovely birthday calls, emails, PMs, posts, and everything! They really made my day.

I had a great day that actually started the night before and will finish up today. I'd taken Saturday night/Sunday morning off work, planning to drive up to my folks, though that ended up rescheduled for next month as a combo with my sister and niece. Meanwhile, some people from work were planning to go see The Family Stone at The Wolf Den (free concert venue at Mohegan Sun), so I joined them. We didn't get into the seating area (would've had to get in line a good 2-3 hours before showtime, I imagine) but we got a reasonably good standing spot just outside. Good show. The band seems to be about half original members of Sly and the Family Stone and half their kids.

After, we went for drinks. The martini bar was ... weird. After having us stand in line and then asking how many were in our party, they let us in and left us to find somewhere to sit for ourselves. There wasn't anyplace, so we left. Went to one of the other restaurants and had margaritas and mojitos. Swapped stories, my favorite being the following:

Techie Dude was at the Port Authority in NYC with a friend and they were accosted by a woman who was panhandling. One person after another made some uncomfortable excuse and the woman worked her way down the line. Then she got to Techie Dude.
Woman: Please, sir. Won't you help me?
Techie Dude, shifting straight into work mode: Of course. I'll do whatever I can to help you, so long as it doesn't involve cigarettes or money.
Woman: #$%&ing social workers! *storms off*

The funny part, to me anyway, is how he slipped straight into that mode, when lately he's mostly been taken away from our program and put to use downtown on IT stuff. Guess that just doesn't wear off. The one member of our group who wasn't from work, more of a plus one, was surprised by the woman's reaction. The rest of us just took it as par for the course, which only served to highlight the fact that we sometimes don't realize how differently we look at things than "normal" people. I'm pretty sure that was actually the topic of conversation that led to that anecdote in the first place. Not entirely sure. That was one helluva mojito.

Yesterday I mostly took it pretty easy. *looks @ pile of laundry* I may yet regret that. However, at the time, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Did a lot of reading, a bit of writing, and went to a two hour restorative yoga session that my former yoga teacher was doing as a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders. There was a pretty good turnout, and the funds raised topped $1400, which was awesome. And two hours of relaxing yoga ... mmmmmmmm.

Today, Patsfan is off work, and I have no idea what we're doing. I've got an eye doctor appointment shortly. We'll see whether that results in bifocals or whether I try going the contact route again, so's to be able to use OTC reading glasses. I'm going to need something, because I had trouble shifting between the electronic Med Administration Record and the three-point type on the pill containers the last time I was at the hospital I'll be in for clinical, and that was a year ago. And I'm not, not, not wearing glasses over glasses, which is the only way OTC reading glasses work for me. (Also the reason I ended up defaulting on my S2B4 entry, which I hope to actually complete once I can see WTF I'm doing without getting a headache after ten minutes.) I've also got a massage this afternoon, and somewhere in there I've got to work in a stop at Curves. Since Patsfan's off, I'm thinking we might be going out for dinner or something, but he hasn't said anything yet. He did set out a gift bag for me yesterday, but I haven't touched it yet, since he wasn't around. Gotta love our schedules. *eyeroll*

Okay, time to start getting ready for the day. Happy Monday, all!
