Fandom meme from luellon
May. 30th, 2009 07:18 pmThe rules are simple, if you're interested, leave a comment and I'll LJ stalk you to find THREE FANDOMS you apparently love. And then you answer these questions about them!
1) What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2) Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3) Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
4) Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5) Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
The three fandoms
luellon picked are HP, Buffy, and Black Jewels. The irony? The answer to question #1 is the same in all three cases.
Harry Potter
1) What got you into this fandom in the first place?
bluedolfyn was astounded that I hadn't read the books and packed me off with 1-4 and a stern admonishment not to devour them all in a weekend, as the 5th wasn't due out for a few more months. I promptly devoured them all in a weekend and OotP was the first time I ever did the midnight release party thing. Though at the local (and now defunct) bookstore it was less "release party" and more "stand in line for two hours to buy a book reserved two months ago."
2) Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? I don't see myself moving on anytime soon. But interests shift, so I'll never say never. More on the "never" thing in a bit.
3) Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? My favorite book in the series is OotP. It's hard to nail down why, but the introduction of Legilimency was a big part. The various ways the mind can or could work in reality and fiction is something that always intrigues me.
4) Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? Mostly I write. And damn if it isn't my own fault. I very stupidly laughed when a coworker, whom I'd just told about doing Vorkosigan fic, said she'd have expected HP to be more my thing, what with the magic and all. I may have said something about never having anything to do with that batshit behemoth of a fandom. Well, it's still a behemoth and frequently batshit, but I'm up to my ears in it. *g*
5) Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? Dear Gods, isn't it huge enough? LOL Though new blood and new ideas will definitely help keep it alive and bring it in new and interesting directions.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
1) What got you into this fandom in the first place? Seriously, it's all
bluedolfyn's fault. I think "Hush" was the first episode I saw. Then "Restless." These are not the two best episodes to give a person a feel for the series. Well, maybe "Hush," but so not "Restless." However, she convinced me to watch "Buffy vs. Dracula," and from then on I was completely sucked in.
2) Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? See above. I'm not as firmly "in" the Buffy fandom, in that the only fest I participate in regularly is
summer_of_giles, though I have participated in others. But I don't see drifting away completely any time soon.
3) Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? Damn, that's hard. "The Body" is a definite contender. So is "Bad Girls." And "Grave," even though I still wish it had been Tara whose love brought Willow back from the darkness. Must write that AU someday.
4) Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? Yep. Not as avidly as I used to, though I hope to play more at
still_grrr this summer in addition to writing for
summer_of_giles.
5) Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? It'd be nice to see more new faces and new energy, as things do seem to be quietening down a lot.
The Black Jewels
1) What got you into this fandom in the first place? Seriously,
bluedolfyn loaned me Daughter of the Blood. It took me awhile to get into it at first. In a way, that reminds me of how I was with Dune. Took awhile to get through the first couple of chapters, always having to refer to a glossary of sorts. But once I was hooked, I was hooked. Again, I think it's my love for mind-magics and twisty psychological stuff that sucked me in.
2) Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? So long as Anne Bishop keeps churning out more books in this 'verse, I'll keep reading 'em. For the most part, I prefer the original trilogy to the sequels, though the most recent book, The Shadow Queen was excellent.
3) Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? Heir to the Shadows, hands down. Watching Jaenelle come into her own in this book is just made of total win. Very unusual for the middle book/movie/whatever in a trilogy to feel like the strongest of the lot, but I think that's true in this case.
4) Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? Other than a few drabbles/ficlets, not so much.
5) Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? While I'd like to see more interest in it, I think it's a fandom that is likely to stay small and that might be a good thing.
See? It's all
bluedolfyn's fault. *g*
And now, I should try getting back to sleep. Or writing my LMOM thing for today. I've made it this far, don't want to blow it on the second to last day!
