firefly124: fanfic writing is my therapy (writing therapy by savine_snape)
Winners announcemnt here.

Congratulations to all the winners and everyone who played! And don't let PJ hear me say this, but we should totally do that again sometime.

Which reminds me, huge thanks to [personal profile] pyjamapants for organizing and orchestrating this awesome challenge!

Guess I'd best get my self organized for regular [profile] 5_for_five business to resume.

Results are here, and ... I'm out. Congrats to [profile] everythursday, who beat me out, writing 1959 words in an hour to my 1710, and congrats to all the other winners!

Hell, congrats to everyone who has played and is continuing to play: the whole point was to get the writing going, and that has clearly happened all around. Brilliant idea, [personal profile] pyjamapants!

As you can see at that post, the lot of us wrote upwards of 80K this weekend, so congrats all around to everybody who took up this challenge to get their writing moving! And huge thanks to [personal profile] pyjamapants for inventing this way to get us all motivated. Thanks, too, for having the "Tortoise Cup" option for those who were eliminated in the first round but want motivation to keep writing. Great idea!

I'm not eligible for that one though, because I made it through round one! Whee! In the next round, I'm up against [profile] everythursday. This round is a single hour squeezed in somewhere today. Think I'll take the laptop with me when I go to the chiro this morning and then seek out a cafe, as that's probably the only way that's going to work. If nothing else, there's the Starbuck's in Target!

Have (mostly) marked up my brackets. (There are still some overtime rounds pending.) Wow, I suck at this. Like worse than 50% wrong suck at it. No wonder I don't gamble. :-D

In other silliness, I went to the Harp & Dragon last night with the excuse of "well, it's GDL's birthday, so I'll go have a pint." Like I need an excuse, but I digress. Partway there, it occurred to me that this might be a better choice of pub (the only pseudo-pub we've got anymore, but still) than I'd realized as I pondered the "Dragon" part of "Harp & Dragon." It occurred to me that I've seen two different flags raised outside the place in the past, only one of them Irish. Hadn't actually paid attention to the other. Neither was up when I got there, but the logo on the sign had a rather familiar looking rampant red dragon! I'd have head-dashboarded, but y'know, they really only promote the supposed Irishness of the place, what with the $2 pints on the 17th of any month if you wear green and suchlike. So while yes, I may be a bit dense, it's not entirely my fault. This time.

This led me to scrutinize the menu a bit for anything trying to be Welsh amongst the Colcannon and corned beef. I already knew their "chips" were a joke. (Beer battered shoestring fries, seasoned waffle fries, and a blank look at requests for malt vinegar = you don't know what actual chips are meant to be, so far as I can tell. Maybe that's just me being an Anglophile though. Would that be normal in an Irish or Welsh pub? Anybody know?) Thanks to a convo earlier this month with [profile] saracen77, I finally twigged that's probably why every other menu item has leek sauce, which is very good but probably doesn't need to be on everything. Subtle. LOL

Have a bit of a sore throat this morning. I'm ordering it not to progress into anything more. We've already got one clinical day to make up, which will be done next Monday. (So I won't be catching my friend's reading in NYC that evening after all. Bummer.) I don't need another make up of my own that'll end up being in May.

Anyway, enough babble. Hope everyone's week is off to a good start! Happy Passover to those celebrating it!

If any of my clients pick my writing slot tonight to melt down on me ... well, that'd just be Murphy's Law. Barring that, I'm writing against [profile] princessteradia from 5-7am GMT (1-3am my time). May the most verbose writer win! LOL

  • Computer up and running. Check.

  • [profile] 5_for_five spreadsheet open. Check.

  • Document I plan to start working on in 35 minutes open. Check.

  • Folder with all the rest of the files for TFTWSD open in case the Muse decides I need to be working on other scenes instead or as well. Check.

  • Playlist and headphones. Check.

  • Work phone close enough to hear over playlist through headphones. Check.

  • Iced green tea and cookies. Check.

Should be good to go. Wish me luck!

ETA: Aaaaand ... done! Whew, that was fun!

Borrowing from [personal profile] pokeystar's post, as I'm too lame to think something up on my own today. I have signed up to participate though. Anyone up for writing against me either in the wee hours of the morning or from the other side of the globe at much saner hours? LOL

Does your muse need a nudge (or a cattle prod)?

I hereby invite you to sign up for MARCH MADNESS!

http://community.livejournal.com/5_for_five/15416.html

You can write anything: fanfic, o-fic, poetry or (dirty)limericks

Strictly for fun. But, you should know I've offered cookies as a prize.

Let's get writing!
