Probably somewhat odd to be grateful for this from CT, where we've had same sex marriage for almost two years, but I'm happy about this nonetheless and grateful to Judge Walker for this ruling. It will undoubtedly be appealed, and a stay has already been granted pending appeal, so no same sex marriages in CA yet, but this was an important ruling and an important step.
Now, could somebody please de-confuse me about the appeals process? I've heard both that the next step of appeals is to the 9th Circuit Court and then the US Supreme Court and that Judge Walker is on the 9th Circuit Court, so the next step from here is the USSC with no intermediate court of appeal. I'm no legal expert, but I'm pretty sure both of those things cannot simultaneously be true. Thanks to ![[profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
