For anyone who may be interested but didn't get the email alert from Amazon this morning, Lady Gaga's Born This Way album, just released today, is an Amazon deal of the day, at 99 cents for the whole album. I don't know, however, if that's available outside the U.S. Also, it seems to be missing the "Fashion of His Love" track that was previewed on FarmVille last week.

No, I don't know how it's come to pass that I not only listen to Gaga but know stuff like this and, in fact, got dragged back into FarmVille by the promise of preview tracks. *eyeroll*

Went to see "Experience Hendrix 2010" last night, and wow! I absolutely loved every minute, though one of the highlights was definitely Doug Wimbish of Living Colour kneeling on the floor about ten feet away from us and playing the hell out of his bass for this little boy who was obviously just awestruck. At least, I assume the little boy was awestruck, because I sure as hell was!

One of the best things, I thought, was the way each act took a classic Hendrix song or three and included both classic Hendrix touches (e.g. Steve Vai playing the guitar with his tongue) and something of their own spin on it (e.g. hints of "Cliffs of Dover" in Eric Johnson's playing). To me, that was an even better tribute than "just" covering Hendrix's songs, as it spoke (at least to me) of not only how much each of these musicians loved Hendrix's music but also the ways in which he had inspired their own musical paths, truly passing on a musical legacy.

I hadn't been to a concert in ages, and I'm so very glad to have gone to this one.

In other non-musical stuff from the evening, Patsfan and I had a surprising conversation over dinner facilitated, weirdly enough, by Facebook. Seems one of his coworkers is friends with Priest Dude, saw me comment on one of PD's posts, and started asking Patsfan about HTAZP. There was a degree of "OMG, freaky Pagan stuff!" in this, apparently. Leading to Patsfan trying to explain stuff he totally doesn't get but, from the sound of it, making an admirable attempt that was probably less confusing than anything I would've said, and in the course of which Patsfan quoted himself as explaining what a free spirit I am.

I kind of sat there and blinked in amazement for a bit, because, dude, I came away from that retreat a few weeks ago refreshed, yes, but also feeling slightly like the Pagan equivalent of a stuffed shirt. "Free spirit" isn't actually a phrase I would have ever thought to use to describe myself, but I kind of like that he does.

I don't think I posted so much as once a week through March, and now I'm up to three posts in a day. *facepalm* Making up for lost time, I guess.

Anyway, GDL's band, Blue Gillespie, has been working on this album for awhile. It was due out mid-March and then hit some production-related snag or other, so it came out April 1. Been listening to it ever since, and I'm liking it a lot. My favorite song is still "Making Sound," which has a new, trippy version. Of the new songs, I haven't really decided yet which I like best. It'll take a few dozen more listens to be sure, though I like them all. Two of the songs are also part of the Casimir Effect soundtrack: "Paradox" and "Time Knot."

You can listen to the songs at ReverbNation. (Be forewarned that many if not most songs have the odd expletive and are probably not best listened to at most workplaces. Assuming you were going to listen to Stoner Metal/Heavy Blues at work in the first place.) You can also set up a fan account there and RN will rec other artists, and even give you a rundown of shows local to you by artists who use their service, which I'm finding cool and potentially useful, as I've already discovered at least one local band I want to check out. Possibly tonight, if I feel better enough. Or not. That might just run me back down again, and it's not like there aren't plenty of other local gigs coming up for that group.

Back to Synestheisa, if you decide you like it, you can purchase the album for download at BandCamp. I'd already pre-ordered the CD, which they're saying should arrive in 2-3 weeks. Meanwhile, they very nicely gave free dl codes to those who had pre-ordered, so no wait to put it on the mp3 player, just for the hard copy, which is cool.

Okay. Shutting up and going to sleep now. Finally.
